The Foster Healthy Families program is designed to work with children age 3 years to 17.5 years, who are
at risk of disruption from their home due to behavioral issues related to trauma. The program helps children maintain their home life, whether in a biological home or in a foster home. We provide intensive support and
therapy for the child and education for the family. We teach children and families how to cope effectively with the symptoms and behaviors resulting from trauma.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY WITH CHILDREN
Foster Healthy Families works with each child individually to determine the level of services needed, ranging from daily to weekly sessions. We use proven behavioral interventions to help reduce behaviors
and symptoms which are interfering with a child's ability to lead a successful and healthy life. Therapies include play therapy, activity therapy, behavioral contracting, and fostering an environment in which
feelings can be expressed safely, boundaries are clear, and positive behaviors are reinforced.
We provide:
- Individual and Family Therapy
- Assessment to determine level of services needed;
- Supportive Contacts with schools and other therapeutic settings;
- Spanish-speaking Case Management/Therapy;
- Crisis Intervention;
- 24/7 phone availability;
- Transportation to medical, therapy, or community meetings.
FAMILY & PARENTING SUPPORT
Children who have suffered trauma need to know that they cared for, and that disclosing about their trauma will not cause them further harm. The Foster Healthy Families program works with families to create
an environment where disclosure is possible and families can work with children to reduce the symptoms and behaviors resulting from trauma while keeping everyone safe.
Parents and caretakers may have many questions about how to address the trauma symptoms of their child. We prove tools for parents to support children in a non-shame-based way so that undesirable
behaviors can be seen as separate from the child's identity. We encourage proactive family socialization including renewed attention and play with traumatized children, helping parents to navigate difficult
boundary issues with recovering children.
For those who need legal support, we assist the child and family throughout the reporting process and are
able to make referrals to appropriate agencies in the criminal justice system.
GROUP SUPPORT
Both parents and children can often benefit from group support. Parents can feel less alone in their struggles with traumatized children by getting together and sharing their care taking experiences.
Children who are at a relatively stable point in their recovery can benefit from group treatment to enhance their social skills, learn appropriate boundaries in friendship relationships, and feel less isolated about their
history of traumatic experience. The Foster Healthy Families Program provides group treatment as needed in the community.
