and Technical Center were the grand prize winners of its radio and TV ad contest. Central High's three-member team of Octavio Gomez, Yesenia Paulino, and Moises Ramirez won top honors for their TV ad
titled, "No Means No." The team's advisor, Michael Malardo, was on hand to offer congratulations to his team. Their TV ad will be aired on Fox-64 beginning in April, which is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
In the radio portion of the contest, Keavin Smith, Jennifer Jackson and George Valesquez from Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center won first place for their ad, "Just Ask." Jason Marzini coached the team
in creating the winning ad, which will debut on Providence Citadel stations 92 Pro FM and Hot 106. "Through efforts such as this contest, Day One endeavors to educate teens about inappropriate behaviors
and attitudes about sexual roles with the hopes that they will recognize, intervene and intercept violent behavior," said Peg Langhammer, executive director of Day One. "Historically, our sexual violence
prevention efforts have focused on what to do and who to call when assaults occur. Today, we recognize the value of primary prevention, that is, preventing an assault from occurring in the first place."
The awards ceremony was held at 10:30 a.m. at RDW Group, a prominent Providence advertising agency. In all, 17 teams from seven R.I. high schools created radio and television ads denouncing sexual violence
among their teen peers. Day One sponsors the annual contest to help teens understand how they can work together to end sexual violence in their interpersonal relationships. MORE INFO
