PROVIDENCE, RI (September 7, 2007). Day One is enrolling participants for several new support groups
beginning this fall. These programs are designed to help survivors and their family members process the trauma associated with sexual abuse while educating them about issues that play a role in recovery. Groups include:
Adolescent support – In this group, 14-17 year old girls who are victims of sexual abuse are encouraged to discuss their feelings and experiences guided by a skilled clinical social worker.
Parent support
– Through this group, non-offending parents of children who have been sexually abused will have the opportunity to share their feelings with one another and exchange ideas and strategies for
coping under the guidance of a clinical social worker.
Non-offending parent program (offered in both Spanish and English) – Following a nine-week curriculum,
parents participate in classes to better understand their role in their child's recovery from sexual abuse as well as counseling to help them process their own feelings and experiences.
Groups are designed for 7-12 participants and run for a total of 9 weeks. The next series begins in September with enrollment ongoing. For more information, please contact the Intake Coordinator at 401-421-4100, ext. 121.
