Providence, RI: June 30, 2006 -- Hawthorne Heights, three time Billboard chart-topper, has made their
June 29 concert at Station Park a benefit for Day One, formerly the Sexual Assault & Trauma Resource Center.
Hawthorne Heights will record a public service announcement to air on WBRU-FM throughout 2006 to
promote anti-sexual violence messages to teen boys. This fall, in conjunction with Day One's move into a new headquarters, Hawthorne Heights and WBRU-FM will auction off a guitar signed by band members and
all proceeds will be donated to Day One.
Day One is focusing on "Men's Role in Prevention" with an emphasis on the reality that while men are both
victims and offenders, many men are bystanders. Day One is reaching out to men to pay attention to the attitudes and behaviors of friends and to speak out against sexual violence.
Peg Langhammer, executive director of Day One, will introduce the band at Thursday's concert.
"We are calling upon teens and asking for their involvement with the hopes of intervening and intercepting
violent behavior early," said Langhammer. "We are thankful to WBRU and Dunkin' Donuts for expressing their commitment to this issue and donating proceeds to help us further our cause."
In 2005, Day One provided services to 7,880 men, women and children through its advocacy, counseling, prevention education, professional trainings, and the R.I. Children's Advocacy Center.
